Overview

  • This is a Senior Counsel position within the International Trade practice, based in the firm's Washington, D.C. office.
  • Responsibilities include advising clients on U.S.-China trade policies, customs, tariffs, export controls, and sanctions.
  • The role also involves counseling on international cybersecurity and data privacy, specifically concerning cloud transactions, computing, encryption, telecommunications, and cross-border data transfer.
  • You will represent clients in customs audits, investigations, seizures, forfeiture actions, and other enforcement matters.
  • The position requires developing corporate compliance procedures, providing training, conducting internal audits, and guiding clients through self-disclosure to customs and other regulatory agencies.
  • Candidates must possess a J.D. or LL.M. degree from a U.S. law school and an active license to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
  • A minimum of six years of legal experience is required, including at least six years specifically working on U.S.-China trade matters.
  • Required expertise includes WTO law, U.S.-China trade policies, customs, tariffs, export controls, sanctions, and regulations governing data transfers between China and the U.S., particularly for multinational clients with operations or supply chains in China.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Professional, cite checking, and legal research platforms (LEXIS/Westlaw) is necessary.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel is expected.
  • The salary for this position is at least $220,000, with potential for a discretionary bonus.
