Overview

Junior-level Associate in the Tax-Exempt Organizations (TEO) practice.
Location: New York, NY.
Qualifications: J.D. from an accredited law school and 1-3 years of legal experience, ideally involving nonprofit organizations, tax-exempt entities, tax, or corporate transactional work.
Bar Admission: New York Bar admission or eligibility to become admitted.
Core Responsibilities: Advising nonprofit organizations on governance, tax-exempt status, and regulatory compliance.
Transaction Work: Supporting restructurings, affiliations, and mergers involving tax-exempt entities.
Investment Advisory: Assisting with endowment management and investment reviews for nonprofit and institutional clients, including program- and mission-related investments.
Document Drafting: Drafting governance documents, policies, and transactional materials.
Research & Client Support: Conducting legal research on nonprofit and tax-exempt issues, participating in client communications, and helping manage ongoing client matters.
Key Skills: Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with attention to detail and organizational abilities.
Sector Interest: Demonstrated interest in the nonprofit or philanthropic sector (prior experience, fellowships, or relevant coursework is a plus).
Compensation: Annualized salary range of $205,000 to $225,000 in New York City, adjusted based on experience and other factors.
