Overview

  • Lead the firm's pro bono practice for nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations, with a primary focus on 501(c)(3) matters.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of nonprofit pro bono matters, including client screening, onboarding, risk management, and matter oversight.
  • Provide substantive legal guidance, mentorship, and training to business law attorneys working on nonprofit pro bono cases.
  • Dedicate approximately 70% of time to guiding and supporting other attorneys (including business development) and 30% to direct client service for complex matters.
  • Deliver hands-on legal support for intricate nonprofit and tax-exempt matters requiring specialized expertise.
  • Develop new pro bono opportunities for tax-exempt organizations through business development activities and enhance knowledge management resources.
  • Report substantively to the Tax Exempt Organizations (TEO) subgroup within the Business Law Department, working in close partnership with the firm's Pro Bono team.
  • Requires a minimum of six (6) years of experience representing nonprofit, tax-exempt clients; law firm experience is a plus.
  • Must possess a JD, be admitted and in good standing in your state of practice, and demonstrate deep expertise in tax-exempt organization law.
  • Proven ability to teach and mentor less experienced attorneys is essential.
  • Target salary range of $200,000 - $250,000.
  • This office-based role includes periodic travel to other firm offices and industry conferences.
