Overview

  • Lead and expand the firm's pro bono practice for nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations.
  • Provide legal oversight, mentorship, and training to business law attorneys working on nonprofit pro bono matters (approximately 70% of time).
  • Deliver direct legal services for complex nonprofit, tax-exempt matters requiring specialized expertise (approximately 30% of time).
  • Manage all aspects of pro bono client engagement, including screening, intake, matter scoping, and risk management throughout the matter lifecycle.
  • Serve as a primary resource for firm attorneys on nonprofit law, legal ethics, and client management in pro bono contexts.
  • Develop and deliver training programs, and maintain knowledge management resources (forms, precedents) related to nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations.
  • Cultivate relationships with legal services organizations and engage in business development to generate new pro bono opportunities for tax-exempt clients.
  • Requires strong legal expertise in tax-exempt organization law, including substantive tax support for 501(c)(3) matters.
  • Minimum six (6) years of experience representing nonprofit, tax-exempt clients is required.
  • Must be admitted and in good standing in your state of practice, with a JD.
  • Essential skills include proven ability to supervise and mentor attorneys, sound judgment, and excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • The role reports substantively to the Tax Exempt Organizations (TEO) subgroup and partners closely with the firm's Pro Bono team.
  • Target salary range: $200,000 - $250,000.
  • Office-based position with periodic travel to other firm offices and industry conferences.
