Overview

  • The role is for a Science Advisor/Patent Agent within the Technology business unit and Intellectual Property Transactions & Strategies group.
  • Key responsibilities include drafting patent applications, including specifications and claims, in coordination with inventors and in-house counsel.
  • Conduct prior art searches, freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses, and assess scientific inventions for patentability, validity, and potential infringement risks.
  • Support IP due diligence efforts related to mergers, acquisitions, investments, and licensing transactions.
  • Perform IP landscape and competitive intelligence analyses to inform client research & development, IP strategy, and business planning.
  • Advise clients on patent portfolio development and management, including prosecution strategies and global filing approaches.
  • Manage day-to-day patent portfolio needs, preparing responses to office actions under the supervision of senior science advisors or associates.
  • Candidates must possess strong academic credentials, technical writing, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with US and international patent law principles, particularly in life sciences and biotech domains, is required.
  • Eligibility to sit for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) registration examination is required if not already registered.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or electrical engineering is preferred.
  • Prior law firm or in-house IP experience, particularly involving patent preparation and prosecution, is preferred.
  • Admission to practice before the USPTO is strongly preferred.
  • The target salary range for this position is $145,000 - $155,000.
