Overview

  • This Science Advisor/Patent Agent role focuses on intellectual property for the Technology business unit.
  • Core responsibilities include drafting patent applications, preparing detailed specifications, and claims.
  • You will conduct prior art searches, freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses, and evaluate inventions for patentability, validity, and infringement risks.
  • The role involves supporting IP due diligence for various transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, investments, and licensing.
  • You will also perform IP landscape and competitive intelligence analyses, and advise clients on patent portfolio development, management, prosecution strategies, and global filing approaches.
  • Day-to-day tasks include managing client patent portfolios and preparing responses to office actions under supervision.
  • Candidates must have strong technical writing and communication skills, with familiarity in US and international patent law principles, particularly in life sciences and biotech.
  • Eligibility to sit for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) registration examination is required; existing USPTO admission is strongly preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • Prior law firm or in-house IP experience, specifically in patent preparation and prosecution, is also preferred.
  • The target salary range for this position is $145,000 - $155,000.
