Overview

The Patent Practice Group at Kelley Drye & Warren LLP encompasses patent litigation, prosecution, client counseling, licensing, and portfolio management.
The role involves handling all aspects of patent litigation in federal district courts and Federal Circuit appeals, alongside post-grant proceedings such as ex parte reexaminations and inter parte review.
Responsibilities include supervising patent agents for application prosecution, collaborating with partners and clients on litigation strategy, and managing all facets of litigation, including discovery (depositions, document review, expert witness preparation) and motion drafting.
Associates will directly counsel clients on complex IP strategy, risk management, and enforcement issues under partner supervision, while also monitoring developments in patent law and relevant emerging technologies.
Candidates must be admitted to practice before the USPTO and possess a strong command of rules governing federal patent litigation, PTAB proceedings, and patent examination.
A preferred undergraduate degree is in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; experience with other IP matters (trademark, copyright, trade dress, trade secret) is a plus.
The firm maintains a hybrid work policy, preferring lawyers to be in the office at least three days a week, with partners generally in the office five days a week when not traveling.
