Overview

  • This is an Associate position within the Corporate Department's Environment, Land & Resources Practice Group in New York.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of post-JD experience in environmental law.
  • The role primarily involves work on environmental issues in commercial transactions, contaminated properties, and energy transition matters.
  • Specific energy transition work includes climate change, carbon capture and sequestration, low carbon fuel, and carbon credit transactions, often with a global scope.
  • Broader practice areas include advising clients on air and water quality, chemical products and regulation, permitting, agency rulemakings, infrastructure project approvals, environmental investigations, compliance, enforcement, and litigation.
  • The practice advises multinational corporations, project developers, investors, and lenders across diverse industries globally.
  • Work includes collaborating with corporate, finance, and tax colleagues to structure transactions, manage environmental risk, and address issues related to contaminated sites, occupational safety and health (OSH), and process safety.
  • Tasks may also involve navigating permitting and entitlements for conventional and renewable energy projects, infrastructure siting, negotiating with federal, state, and local regulators, and consulting with American Indian tribes.
  • Fluency in Spanish or French, or prior policy, business, legal, or government experience in the environmental, energy, or climate sectors is a plus but not required.
  • Base salaries for associates are: Class of 2026 ($225,000), 2025 ($225,000), 2024 ($235,000), 2023 ($260,000), 2022 ($310,000), 2021 ($365,000), 2020 ($390,000), 2019 ($420,000), and 2018 ($435,000). Discretionary bonuses may also be available.
