Overview

  • This is an Assistant General Counsel position within the firm's Office of General Counsel.
  • The role reports directly to the firm's Deputy General Counsel.
  • The position can be based in Seattle, San Francisco, Palo Alto, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Austin, Boston, New York, or Washington, D.C.; San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, and Washington, D.C. are preferred locations.
  • Core Responsibilities: Advise firm constituents on a broad range of legal, ethics, and risk management issues, firm policies, and strategic client relations, ensuring internal stakeholders align with legal processes.
  • Key Tasks: Manage subpoena responses (including litigation holds and document production), advise on engagement documentation (e.g., secondments, vendor terms), and counsel on client records preservation and transfer.
  • Policy & Oversight: Update and maintain risk management policies and guidelines, oversee firm bar admissions policies, and support annual risk management audits for professional liability insurance renewal. Provide litigation support as needed, and stay current on professional responsibility law and firm risk management regulations.
  • Required Qualifications: You must possess a Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and an active bar license in good standing in your office location.
  • Required Experience: A minimum of 5 years of legal practice is required, including litigation experience in a law firm setting.
  • Preferred Experience: Prior experience in a law firm Office of General Counsel or risk management, and a background in privacy law, are beneficial.
  • Key Skills & Demands: The role requires strong communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, analytical thinking, a commitment to professional ethics and confidentiality, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure. Some travel and the ability to work extended or weekend hours are also required.
  • Annual Salary Ranges:

* New York, San Francisco, Palo Alto: $244,000 - $340,000.

* Seattle, Los Angeles, San Diego, Boston, Washington, D.C.: $232,000 - $324,000.

* Denver: $217,000 - $303,000.

  • Additional Compensation & Benefits: The compensation package includes potential for a discretionary bonus, health/welfare benefits, retirement contributions, paid holidays, PTO, parental leave, family support programs, wellness benefits, and education reimbursement.
