Overview

  • Seek a Counsel or Senior Associate for the International Trade group in Washington, D.C.
  • Requires 6+ years of relevant experience in international trade, export controls, economic sanctions, or customs, gained at a law firm, in-house legal department, or U.S. government agency.
  • Advise major companies and industry associations on U.S. export controls (EAR, ITAR), economic sanctions (OFAC), U.S. customs regulations, and foreign investment reviews (CFIUS).
  • Perform jurisdictional and classification analyses (e.g., EAR, ITAR, encryption), and draft/submit license applications and Technical Assistance Agreements to government agencies.
  • Counsel clients on export control and sanctions considerations in cross-border transactions (e.g., mergers and acquisitions, technology transfers), and advise on CFIUS national security reviews and related filings.
  • Develop and implement trade compliance programs, conduct internal investigations, and prepare voluntary disclosure reports for government authorities (e.g., BIS, DDTC, OFAC).
  • Advise on emerging technology control issues, including regulations governing artificial intelligence, advanced computing, semiconductors, quantum computing, and cybersecurity.
  • Assist clients with import-related matters, including supply chain evaluation, responding to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) inquiries, duty assessment, and Harmonized Tariff Schedule classification.
  • Requires a Juris Doctor (JD) and admission to the D.C. bar (or eligibility for admission).
  • Expected salary range is $315,000 - $415,000, with eligibility for bonuses based on 1,600-1,800 hours. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.
