Overview

Location: San Francisco, California.
Role Type: Partner track position.
Experience: 5-6 years of legal experience, with previous or current employment at an Am Law 100 firm desired.
Practice Focus: Primarily data protection, privacy, and artificial intelligence matters, with additional consideration for sector-specific experience (e.g., financial services, children’s privacy, telecom, biometrics, genetics, digital advertising).
Key Responsibilities Include: Advising businesses on major global and U.S. data protection legal frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, FTC Act) and specific laws (e.g., HIPAA, FCRA, GLBA, COPPA, TCPA, CAN-SPAM).
Key Responsibilities Include: Representing clients in regulatory investigations or litigation involving consumer protection issues (e.g., State AG, FTC) and defending data privacy/security class actions (e.g., Stored Communications Act, wiretapping claims, data breach).
Key Responsibilities Include: Drafting and negotiating privacy notices, terms of service, incident response plans, data protection policies, and commercial agreements involving data sharing (e.g., data processing agreements, cross-border transfer agreements).
Key Responsibilities Include: Conducting privacy and security-related due diligence for corporate transactions and driving data breach preparation, risk mitigation, coordination, and responses.
Key Responsibilities Include: Establishing AI governance programs and policies, and advising on artificial intelligence and automated decision-making/profiling laws (e.g., EU AI Act, U.S. federal and state-level).
Required Qualifications: Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school with excellent academic credentials; active membership in the California State Bar in good standing.
Essential Skills: Demonstrated ability to engage directly with clients, lead significant projects, strong analytical and writing skills, general tech fluency, and comfort with ambiguity.
Compensation: The salary range for this role in San Francisco is $365,000 – $390,000.
