Overview

  • This is a Patent Prosecution Paralegal position located in San Diego, California.
  • You will provide comprehensive support for U.S. and international patent prosecution matters.
  • Key responsibilities include preparing and filing diverse U.S. patent applications (e.g., utility, continuation, divisional, reissue) and related documents (e.g., declarations, IDS, assignments, issue fees) with the USPTO.
  • Prepare and file international (PCT) and direct foreign patent applications, including PCT Article 19 amendments, Chapter II demands, and Article 34 amendments.
  • Manage client-specific dockets, monitor deadlines, and ensure the timely completion of all filings and prosecution requirements.
  • Review, process, and report patent office communications; maintain accurate electronic records, databases, and docketing systems.
  • Communicate directly with clients and foreign associates regarding filings and prosecution matters, and keep attorneys and patent professionals informed on application status.
  • Requires a minimum of 3+ years of patent prosecution experience in a law firm or comparable professional services environment, supporting U.S., PCT, and/or foreign matters.
  • Candidates must have a college degree or equivalent paralegal experience; a paralegal certificate is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of USPTO rules, procedures, and electronic filing systems is required; working knowledge of PCT procedures and foreign patent prosecution practices is preferred.
  • Must be able to meet billable hour requirements while demonstrating strong organizational, data management, analytical, problem-solving, and project management abilities.
  • The expected salary range for this position is $105,000 - $145,000, with final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and other factors.
