This is a Staff Attorney position based in Steptoe LLP's New York office.
Candidates must have a minimum of four years of litigation experience.
The role primarily involves assisting with litigating and settling consumer litigation and arbitration matters.
Core responsibilities include managing individual litigation and arbitration matters, reviewing correspondence and pleadings, reporting urgent issues to supervising Partners, managing calendars and deadlines, conducting document review, supervising local counsel, drafting pleadings and motions, and handling discovery.
Settlement duties include regular communication with opposing counsel, preparing client settlement recommendations, and drafting agreements.
Court appearances and attendance at arbitration merits hearings may be required.
Required qualifications are a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active, good-standing membership in the New York bar. Essential skills include strong academic credentials, excellent writing and analytical abilities, exceptional attention to detail, multitasking capability, and confidence in interacting with opposing counsel.
Preferred experience includes: arbitration matters in JAMS or AAA; defending financial institutions or commercial clients against claims under consumer protection, banking, or privacy laws; and/or experience in bankruptcy court (including adversary proceedings).
The anticipated salary range is $195,000 to $205,000, with the actual offer dependent on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
